Introducing automatic optimization and Root Cause Analysis

April 23, 2026

Speed of iteration is one of the biggest differentiators in enterprise AI deployments. Today, we’re excited to announce two new capabilities to help you rapidly improve your agent’s performance:

  1. Automatic optimization: Enhance Agent Operating Procedures (AOPs), brand guidelines, and guardrails based on best practices from hundreds of enterprise deployments
  2. Root Cause Analysis: Automatically identify high-impact improvements based on live conversations

These optimization tools are available through Duet, your AI partner for building and managing your agent across the Decagon platform.

From reactive to systematic improvements

Until now, we've given customers the tools they need to investigate and iterate on their agents independently: trace inspection, conversation sampling, and manual iteration. This works, and it's gotten customers far. But as deployments grow in complexity and scale, there is a compounding gap between how fast teams want to move and how fast they actually can.

We built Duet to close that gap, applying the same agentic capabilities that power customer-facing agents to the development itself. When it comes to iteration, this means that teams have a systematic way to get ahead of improvement opportunities.

Automatically optimize your agent with proven best practices

As users create or update agent logic, Duet now provides suggestions for how to optimize every piece of the build, including entry criteria, guardrails, brand guidelines, and AOPs. Duet analyzes each change against the team’s full set of conversation intents, catching conflicts and redundancies that are difficult to spot manually as complexity accumulates.

It also surfaces opportunities to strengthen AOPs against best practices. Through hundreds of enterprise deployments, we've accumulated deep knowledge of what separates good AOPs from great ones, including conversational design, guardrail structure, and how logic performs under real-world conditions. That expertise is embedded directly into every recommendation Duet returns.

With every update, Duet helps teams proactively improve workflows to keep them clean, cohesive, and performing at the level the business requires.

Identify highest impact areas for improvement with Root Cause Analysis

In production, there is no shortage of real-world signals. Conversations are happening constantly, quality assessments are being generated, and patterns are forming. What's needed is a fast, systematic way to turn that signal into action.

Root Cause Analysis closes that gap, identifying patterns and generating targeted recommendations. It automatically pulls the lowest-scoring conversations from the Agent Performance Scorecard in Watchtower, analyzes them, and clusters the top drivers of poor performance by impact volume. The clustered themes are then mapped to specific components: AOP structure, knowledge gaps, and missing tools.

Users can customize the analysis by defining their own RCA goals, such as CSAT or deflection, and filtering by key specifications. Duet then lets them drill into each theme cluster to get targeted recommendations for closing the gaps that matter most, whether that means refreshing a help center article or adjusting AOP logic.

As a result, users working across complex, multi-workflow deployments can immediately see exactly what's not working, where the issue lives, and what to fix first. For example, instead of spending hours reviewing transcripts, a user can see in minutes that 40% of poor conversations stem from a gap in returns policy knowledge and fix it with guided recommendations.

Create proactive iteration loops

Traditional software development is bottlenecked by how much context any one team can process. Agentic systems dissolve that constraint, continuously evaluating tradeoffs, surfacing edge cases, and optimizing across the entire codebase in parallel. The result is an optimization flywheel that doesn't just keep pace with where teams are headed, but anticipates it.
